The topic of discussion for the last couple weeks has been, how and what do we expose Cowboy to? What kind of values do we want to bring him up with? And how do you do this?
So there are a few that are pretty much no brainers that we both agree on, like our family will eat dinner at the dining room table with no other distractions like TV or Sudoku. But then we get to ones that hit grey areas like at what age do you let your kids start playing video games? How much TV is too much? Yikes, so many questions and things to think about as we prepare to physically and mentally raise a child.
One thing that is clear for us is exposing Cowboy to the Arts. And we have already begun this process. This summer has been full of live music...from concerts at the Hollywood Bowl--Mos Def, Yo Yo Ma and Reggae to community events like taiko and gospel at Warren Furutani's campaign fundraiser. The visual arts a bit hard to expose him to right now, but that will come in due time.
Cowboy's favorite outing so far has been Charlie and the Chocolate Factory -- he rolled for two hours straight. My belly felt like jiffy pop. (Steve says that cowboy will never understand what that metaphor means - jiffy pop is a thing of the past)
Cowboy also had a jiffy pop moment when we opened his present from Aunty Ellen and Uncle Jason. It was a hand knit baby blanket and matching hat! So cute! We're just hoping that by the time he comes it will be cool enough for him to use it when we come home from the hospital.

i disagree with steve...as long as you shop at target, jiffy pop will be around for at least the first few years of his life! they sell it in the dollar isle! oh, i also heard/read that a babys can be stimulated by what you look at and like...so... i would say that he has definately been expeosed to visual arts :)
